Relations with Germany
The Principality of Monaco and the Federal Republic of Germany have maintained diplomatic relations since 16 October 1951.
The interests of Monaco in the American, British, French, and Russian occupied zones were entrusted to H.E. Mr Maurice LOZE, on 1 January 1946.
A legation was created on 16 October 1951, first attached to the French legation, then to the Swiss legation (1970), and again in Paris (1975), with H.E. Mr. Maurice LOZE in charge.
The legation became an Embassy on 29 August 1983. The Ambassadors of Monaco were successively, H.E. Mr René BOCCA (29 August 1983), H.E. Mr Jean HERLY (4 March 1991), H.E. Mr Rainier IMPERTI (17 July 2000), H.E. Mr Claude GIORDAN (7 February 2005), H.E. Mrs Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ (1 August 2015), and H.E. Mr Frédéric LABARRERE (27 November 2019).
H.E. Mr Lorenzo RAVANO was appointed Ambassador of Monaco to Germany on 16 May 2022. He presented his letters of credence to H.E. Mr Frank-Walter STEINMEIER, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, on 21 June 2022
Reciprocally, H.E. Mr Reinhard SCHAFERS, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to France was accredited by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, on 20 October 2008. He presented his letters of credence on 10 February 2009, becoming the first German Ambassador accredited to the Principality.
H.E. Mrs Susanne WASUM-RAINER, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to France, replaced H.E. Mr Reinhard SCHAFERS and was accredited by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on 3 August 2012. She presented her Letters of credence on 30 October 2012
H.E. Mr Nikolaus MEYER-LANDRUT, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to France, replaced H.E. Mrs Susanne WASUM-RAINER and was accredited by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on 11 September 2015. He presented his Letters of credence on I December 2015.
H.E. Mr Hans-Dieter Lucas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to France, replaced H.E. Mr Nikolaus MEYER-LANDRUT and was accredited by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on 6 July 2020. He presented his Letters of credence on Thusday 11 February 2021.
H.E. Mr Stephan STEINLEIN, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to France, has been approved by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and presented his credentials to Him on 11 April 2024.
