No, with a valid passport and Schengen visa / Residence permit from an EU/EEA countries, no additional formalities for a short stay (less than 90 days) is necessary.

In absence of a Social Security Agreement between the Principality of Monaco and the above mentioned countries, a secondment procedure is possible, however limited to 30 days per year. 

A written request has to be sent by post to the Employments Office (Service de l'Emploi), at the following address :

Mentionning the following information : 

  • The motive for the secondment, 
  • The employee's first and last names, 
  • Their qualifications, 
  • The exact period of the assignment, 

Their accommodation address in the region during the assignment.

  • The identity document(s),
  • A certificate of insurance against accidents in the workplace while working abroad.

For nationals from the European Union/ European Economic Area national (EU/EEA), a valid ID card or Passport is sufficient. 

For both a short stay visa (less than 90 days) or a long stay visa (more than 90 days) for non-European Union / non-European Economic Area (EU/EEA), before taking any steps, it is necessary to apply for a visa for Monaco issued by the French authorities. 

Contact the French Consulate in your country of residence. The formalities to be completed will vary depending on your nationality and country of origin.

The Monegasque nationality can be acquired by maternal or paternal descends, marriage, adoption or naturalization. 

Neither residence nor birth in the Principality confers the right to acquire Monegasque nationality, as was the case in the past, with the exception of children born in Monaco to unknown parents, who become Monegasque solely by virtue of their birth on the territory of the Principality.
