Relations with Austria
The Principality of Monaco and the Republic of Austria officially established diplomatic relations on 1 July 1891, when the first legation of Monaco was created, which, at the time, was attached to the legation of the Holy See and was later closed in 1914 and abolished in 1922.
Subsequently, H.E. Mr Claude GIORDAN was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Monaco to Austria, with residence in Berlin, on 7 February 2007. He presented his letters of credence to the President of the Republic of Austria, on 16 April 2007, becoming Monaco's first Ambassador to this country.
From 1 January 2014 to 30 April 2015, a temporary Monegasque Mission was based in Vienna during Monaco's Chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security and Cooperation.
H.E. Mrs Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ replaced H.E. Mr GIORDAN and was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Monaco to Austria, with residence in Berlin, on 1 August 2015. She presented her Letters of credence to the President of the Republic of Austria on 13 November 2015
H.E. Mr Frédéric LABARRERE, replaced H.E. Mrs Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ and was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Monaco to Austria, with residence in Berlin
on 5 juin 2020. He presented his Letters of credence to the President of the Republic of Austria on 30 September 2020.
Currently, His Excellency Mr Lorenzo RAVANO is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Austria, having been appointed by Sovereign Ordinance no. 9.330 of 5 July 2022
Reciprocally, H.E. Mr Hubert HEISS, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to France, presented his Letters of credence to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, on 17 July 2007,
becoming the first Austrian Ambassador to Monaco
H.E. Ms Ursula PLASSNIK, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to France, replaced H.E. Mr Hubert HEISS and presented her Letters of credence to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, on 9 February 2012.
H.E. Mr Walter GRAHAMMER, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to France, replaced H.E. Ms Ursula PLASSNIK and was accredited by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on 11 August 2016. He presented his Letters of credence, on 29 January 2018.
H.E. Mr Michael LINHART, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to France, replaced H.E. Mr Walter GRAHAMMER and was accredited by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on 21 June 2018. He presented his Letters of credence, on 10 September 2019
Since 16 January 2023, and pending the successor to Ambassador LINHART, who has taken up other duties, Mr Wolfgang WAGNER ensures continuity as Chargé d'affaires ad interim.
