The Principality of Monaco takes part in the 69th IAEA General Conference.

Monaco is attending the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), currently taking place in Vienna until 19 September 2025. Ms Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director-General of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, is leading the Monegasque delegation1

In her address to the General Debate, she welcomed the Agency’s efforts to ensure safety at Ukraine’s nuclear facilities, including through the IAEA Support and Assistance Mission in Zaporizhzhia. She also reaffirmed Monaco’s support for the IAEA’s work, particularly on the application of nuclear science and technology to peaceful uses, with the aim of safeguarding the environment both on land and at sea, and protecting human health.

The Director-General highlighted Prince Albert II’s personal commitment to the twin causes of tackling climate change and promoting ocean conservation. She cited the example of the Blue Economy and Finance Forum, an official UN Ocean Conference Special Event held in Monaco in June 2025. Taking place during the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, the BEFF was attended by some 1,800 delegates from nearly 100 countries.

Ms Rosabrunetto went on to underline the importance of the IAEA’s Marine Environment Laboratories, which Monaco has hosted since 1961. As part of the NUTEC Plastics Initiative, these laboratories provide technical assistance to a global network of over 100 facilities, aiming to monitor plastic pollution in the marine environment and demonstrate that ionising radiation can be used to recycle plastic.

Finally, in the field of human health, the Director-General reaffirmed Monaco’s backing for the IAEA’s efforts to promote cancer screening and treatment through the “Rays of Hope” initiative, by helping countries to set up radiotherapy units where none currently exist. The initiative now supports almost 90 countries worldwide, including several that Monaco has identified as priority partners for development cooperation.
